Portfolio Shoot {Jess}

Model Portfolios

Hi everyone,

Happy Tuesday!

I have always wanted to start a separate category to photograph teenagers (both guys and girls).  Called “Beautiful YOU!”, the idea behind this is more than a portfolio shoot ~ its to help teens grow in their confidence and understand that no matter who they are, there is beauty within them and if they understand that, it will radiate outwards.  Kind of fits with my Wabi~Sabi philosophy that I so love ~ meaning, very simply – “finding beauty in imperfection!”.  We are all human, we are all imperfect and yet we all have something beautiful about us.  My aim is to find your beauty.

I enjoy playing around with different textures and backgrounds as well as working with composites.

Set me Free

I have wanted to photograph Jess for ages.  Finally, her Mom and I said “lets do it!”  and we did!  A gentle, sweet, beautiful girl inside and out.  We played around a bit with portrait-style shots and then I tried out a few images so I could work with composites.  I like the one I’ve titled “set me free” the best.  So much fun to do.  Thanks Jess and Lolo xxx

Portrait & Portfolio Photography

Let me just say outright – I love Portfolio Photography.

I met Sharon awhile back when she was starting her fabulous Chic Sugar business in Cape Town and I was still trying to build my portfolio as a Wedding & Lifestyle Photographer. We agreed to do a trade exchange a couple of times and ended up working really well together.   So, quick punt for her;  if you’re looking for something really amazing, stylish, different and VERY sweet for any type of celebrations go on over and have a gander at Sharons’ fab website.

Anyway – it being December and everyone in Notties allegedly skedaddling all over the countryside and the fact that I had a wedding booked – I decided to head to Cape Town for the December.  So it came to pass that Sharon asked me to do a photo shoot for her 15 year old daughter.

These are the results.  They are rather lovely but then again it helps when you have a “model” with exquisite features (even if she doesn’t know it herself).  Dani – you’re gorgeous – don’t ever forget it.

Beautiful You | A new idea | Teen Photoshoots | Mom ‘n Daughter photoshoots

Its one of those ideas that’s still taking shape. Teen Photography appears to have a little gap in the market all over, which is weird.  Also, there are a million wedding and family photographers out there.  I love Boudoir photography but us Capetonians are generally a little shy.

Having lacked serious confidence as a teen, despite (according to my folks) being quite pretty and skinny (Wednesday legs),  I want to use my skills as a photographer to show young teenagers how beautiful each and every person is.  No matter how tall or short,  pimply or olive skinned, straight hair or curly, quiet or flamboyant. With the odd prop and some good humour, some soft light and gentle encouragement I’d like to portray the bits that make a young girl (or guy) so beautiful – purely by virtue of the fact that they are who they are.

A lovely quote to keep in mind:

“Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? Proving nature’s laws wrong, it learned to walk without having feet. Funny, it seems to by keeping it’s dreams; it learned to breathe fresh air. Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else even cared.”
