KZN Midlands Country-style Wedding

KZN Midlands Country-style Wedding | Leon & Terri

KZN Midlands Country-style Wedding | Leon & Terri

It has been a long while since I blogged any shoots !  This colorful and happy wedding inspired me once again.  It also reminded me of these words by Kahlil Gibran ~

“The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain. Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven? And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives? When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see in truth that you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”

Saturday, 8th April 2017 was a very special day for these two wonderful people.  Leon Gryvie, our local GP and Terri, a beautiful and wild lass from the Eastern Cape.

A sunny day filled with joy, smiles, laughter, jokes, good company, good food and so much love…..even the Midlands weather played the game.

Congratulations Terri & Leon – here’s wishing you guys so much happiness, companionship and peace in the years to follow.  Thank you too, for giving me the opportunity to capture your wedding day xxxxx

Take a look at these gorgeous happy pix for an idea of what it means to have a real KZN Midlands Country-style Wedding!!!

KZN Food Photography {HARTFORD HOUSE}

KZN Food Photography – Chef Constantijn Hahndiek

My passion for food and photography continues unabated…….so I was of course rather thrilled when the GM from Hartford House – Duncan Bruce – called me to set up our next shoot.  They had a VIP guest,  restaurant crit and blogger, Chris Von Ulmenstein and Chef Tijn was preparing some special dishes.  I have to admit,  I got to taste each and although they were all beautifully presented, smelled sensational and tasted divine – the Quail did it for me.

As much as I love photography, and am passionate about making beautiful images, I also love fine cuisine.

My journey with food and photography started a few years back when I did the food and interior photography for the new Bread & Butter Coffee Shop in Cape Town.

Since then I’ve dabbled here and there, not really focussing on food as much as trying to establish my own unique style.

So, when Duncan Bruce from Hartford House phoned me up and invited me to spend the afternoon at the gorgeous Hartford House off the Hlatikulu road, near Mooi River,  I realised how much I really really love photographing food.  Although how could one not – in such sublime surroundings.  Chef “Tijne” had used the theme of “seasons” for his dishes,  so I decided the best way to capture the essence  of each dish, was to shoot outside, in natural light, using the elements I found around me.  Fish ponds, sun dials, veggie garden, stone pathways –    all worked like a charm.

Here are some of the images and a few of the actual grand dame herself.

Thanks Duncan, for giving me the opportunity.  I sincerely look forward to many more.

BREAD & BUTTER MEETS LIVING TEXTURES

Steve owns a paint shop.  Eileen is a wife and mother to three busy children.  Lucky for us, they decided to branch off from paint and parenting to open up a coffee and interior/gifting shop.

Rather amusingly, you have to go through the paint shop to get to the coffee shop. Bread & Butter and Living Textures came to life less than 6 months ago.  After a personal tragedy last year, Eileen needed something to challenge her and occupy her physically and mentally.  Since then, this establishment has become a destination in the area.  Situated close to Elkanah High School and slap bang in the middle of Builders Warehouse and the West Coast Village Shopping centre (with Blaauberg netcare hospital down the road) Bread & Butter has become a meeting place for all sorts.  Mommies having a quick coffee after the school drop, business meetings, church meetings, in-between-gym and shopping meetings.  Aside from astoundingly good coffee (Steve has a secret recipe for their own blend), mouth-wateringly delish cupcakes and muffins and rather yummy open sandwiches, there is an array of goodies to buy as gifts.  From wooden hearts that will permeate any room with the soft smells of  lavendar, vanilla or sandalwood to gorgeous ceramics made by local potter – Hayley.  Coffee and good nosh aside, if you’re looking for a gift or a self-spoil, you will definitely find something here, at a reasonable price nogal.
